Bill and Tamara knew Valerie had an extensive background in military and veteran lifestyle as a Navy wife, mom and caregiver for her veteran husband. They approached her about hosting an educational opportunity for military, veterans and their families to learn what programs were available to them through their willing sacrifice to serve our nation.
Valerie along with Bill, Tamara and Kayleen hosted the first event in late March. Not knowing how it would turn out as they advertised only on social media, they had three veterans and a couple of caregivers attend. The guest speaker talked about barriers to employment and educational opportunities while Bill spoke on the veterans guaranteed home loan program and Tamara spoke about her company’s military giveback program. All those whom attended found something useful and as such the group decided to host another event for networking.
The next event took place in May during the Miami County Food Truck Rally in Troy Ohio. The team coordinated more than a dozen organizations to participate in a vendor event where military, veterans and their families could walk through and learn of a variety of organizations and services available to assist and meet their needs to obtaining a quality of life. This event was so well received that the team has been invited back for the 2020 Miami County Food Truck Rally.
Just nine days later, Memorial Day 2019 the Miami Valley of Ohio suffered significant destruction from historic storms that pushed more than 15 tornadoes through the area. Valerie and Kayleen jumped right in to assist anywhere help was needed. Through these efforts Valerie was connected to a variety of veterans whom our team continues to help today. By late August it was determined by Bill, Tamara, Kayleen and Valerie that Operation Venture would become a nonprofit organization. Valerie had a vision to begin a nonprofit to support veteran caregivers when approached by Bill and Tamara early on, this led to the official title of Operation Venture and Caregiver Support and thus the organization officially launched through the Ohio Secretary of State as a nonprofit business on August 29, 2019.
